MILWAUKEE — Joc Pederson celebrated his 27th birthday by going 4 for 4 with two home runs and three runs scored. But the Dodgers needed a ninth-inning home run by Cody Bellinger to reclaim a 6-5 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday afternoon.

Pederson started early, hitting the second pitch of the game from Brewers starter Brandon Woodruff 421 feet to the hitter’s background in straightaway center field. Corey Seager followed with a double and scored on Bellinger’s one-out single.

In the second, Pederson’s two-out single sparked another two-run burst. Seager doubled again to score Pederson and Bellinger drove Seager in again with another single.

Pederson led off the fourth against Woodruff and this time hit his second pitch over the wall in right field for his 10th home run of the season. Pederson joined Christian Yelich, Khris Davis and Bellinger as the first hitters to reach double digits in home runs this season. He did it with the fewest at-bats (72) of the group because he does not play against left-handed pitching.

In the sixth inning, though, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts left Pederson in to face lefty reliever Donnie Hart with two outs and no one on. Pederson dribbled a ground ball under Hart’s glove that shortstop Orlando Arcia tried to barehand unsuccessfully. The infield single was Pederson’s first hit in 10 at-bats against lefties this season.

Meanwhile, their own lefty, Clayton Kershaw, was outstanding in his second start of the season.

Kershaw didn’t give up a hit until the fifth inning, walking Yelich twice in that time. Arcia looped a triple into the right field corner to start the fifth inning and Lorenzo Cain followed two batters later with a two-run home run on a hanging slider.

Those were the Brewers’ only hits off Kershaw, who struck out seven in six innings.

After Yelich hit four home runs in the first three games of the series, the Dodgers kept the major-league leader in check Sunday. He still hit one over the fence in the eighth inning. But Bellinger went back to the wall in right field, jumped and reached over the fence to catch it, robbing Yelich of his 14th homer of the season.

Pedro Baez gave up that drive and back-to-back singles, bringing the tying run to the plate with two outs in the eighth. Pitching for the fourth time in the past five days, Kenley Jansen came in to face Eric Thames.

After working the count full, Thames hammered a game-tying, three-run home run to center field.

In the top of the ninth, though, Bellinger came to the rescue again. He lined a 1-and-2 slider from Brewers bullpen ace Josh Hader into the right-field seats for his 11th home run of the season.

This time, Jansen made the lead stand up and closed out the Dodgers’ third win in the four-game series at Miller Park.
