The odds were against Toronto winning the 2019 NBA championship, but the Raptors won their first NBA title and were as high as 18-1 during the NBA Eastern Conference finals when trailing the Bucks 2-0. Toronto went on to win four straight games over Milwaukee, and then took down the two-time defending champion Golden State Warriors in the NBA finals.

Now the Raptors odds of repeating as division and conference champs, and winning another NBA championship in 2020, hinge on NBA Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard's pending status on where he'll play in the 2019-20 season. Free agency opens June 30 at 6pm ET, and according to league sources via ESPN, Leonard and two-time NBA finals MVP Kevin Durant have been discussing scenarios that could include a future with them playing together.

Leonard is expected to meet with the Los Angeles Lakers, Clippers, Knicks and Raptors upon the opening of free agency. Durant is planning conversations with the Clippers, Knicks, Nets and Warriors.

Online sportsbook SportsBetting.ag has odds on where the two stars will end up.

While the NBA draft did nothing in terms of championship odds movement, the trade of Anthony Davis from New Orleans to Los Angeles made the Lakers the 3-1 favorite to win the 2020 NBA championship. Davis' points and rebounds production is also offered at SportsBetting.ag.

Los Angeles Lakers dominating NBA futures market

FanDuel Sportsbook has the Lakers at +360 to win the 2020 NBA Championship, and Kevin Hennessy of FanDuel's publicity department reported that the LA Lakers had received 27% of all bets in the 2020 NBA Championship market as of June 21 following the trade of Anthony Davis to the Lakers on June 15.

Jeff Sherman, the Vice President of Risk Managament at the Westgate SuperBook in Las Vegas, posted the adjusted odds to win the 2020 NBA Championship following the trade of Davis to the LA Lakers.

The Lakers were 5-1 just prior to the trade for Anthony Davis, and 20-1 to win the 2020 championship in May after missing the 2019 playoffs with a 37-45 regular season record. The Warriors opened as the +175 favorite in May, but injuries to Klay Thompson and Kevin Durant derailed the Warriors hopes and Golden State's 2020 championship odds rose to 12-1.

The SuperBook moved LA's 2020 championship odds to +250 on June 27 with the news that the Lakers had cleared enough cap space to sign another max free agent. Now with even more hype surrounding the Lakers and a potential signing of Kawhi Leonard during free agency, Sherman and the SuperBook moved the Lakers championship odds to +120 on June 28, not because of big bets, but to protect itself against the chance that Kawhi joins the Lakers.

“If Kawhi goes there, we’d have what we’ve seen out of the Warriors recently,” Sherman said Saturday. “If that becomes official, the Lakers would be minus (money) to win the title.”

The odds will continue to adjust based on not only player movement, but on the money bet on teams. The Lakers remain most popular, and over-valued in the marketplace.

“It’s almost like a Tiger Woods effect,” Sherman said. “The Lakers’ odds, in conjunction with LeBron, are going to be lower than they really should be based on who’s betting them. They’re always looking to bet the Lakers and they’re always looking to bet on LeBron’s team."

Sherman added that if Leonard remains with the Raptors, Toronto's odds will drop back to 6-1 and be Eastern Conference co-favorites with Milwaukee. "It’s a 24-hour type of thing for the next week.”

Kawhi Leonard will meet with the Lakers and Clippers on July 1-2. He'll get plenty of support and a pitch from LaBron James, who just gifted his No. 23 jersey to Anthony Davis. Still, James has a better chance of leading the league in jersey sales with his new number than the Lakers winning a NBA championship in 2020.

You can bet on it.
